“I am excited to have had the opportunity to do this health screening which I would not ordinarily go to the hospital for. I encourage my colleagues to periodically undertake health screening to ensure they are always healthy and strong”, a participant noted.

Participants also received a health talk on physical activity and good health and engaged in lots of fun games.

Speaking on the theme, Mr. Emmanuel Assasie, a lecturer at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies advised participants to make exercising a lifestyle. According to him, exercising at least three times a week would help prevent hypertension, cancers, osteoporosis and many more chronic diseases. “Eating a balanced diet and having enough rest are factors one should consider as a way of healthy living” – Mr. Assasie added. He recommended brisk walking and swimming as other forms of good exercise apart from going to the gym.

The Director of Sports, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu indicated that the essence of the event was to celebrate the successes of the University, taking into account the University’s achievements and carving a path for the future.

“This celebration is to showcase what the Sports Directorate has done and what it is doing as a unit of the University as well as how it has contributed to the success of the University. I must say that sports at the tertiary level is not all about competitions but the use of sports as an instrument to address social issues which will bring sustainable development within our society.” Dr. Bitugu said.

He added that plans are underway to create a more scholastic and recreational sports facility to benefit individuals and groups within the University community and beyond.
