Vice Chancellor presented with leadership Award

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has been presented with a Companion of Global Public Excellence Award for his leadership and vision to humanity by the Global Companion of leadership. 

In presenting the award, Ambassador of Global Public Excellence, Dr. Kwame Fordjour, outlined the vision behind the Global Excellence of Companion award and how the Vice- Chancellor was chosen. According to him, The Global Public Excellence Awards is awarded to people from all walks of life who are working to help make the world a better place. He stated that, the Global Excellence of Companion Award is partnered to the United Nations and governments in various countries and before one is awarded, the person is discovered by these institutions.

Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu in his speech after receiving the award expressed his excitement and dedicated the award to the University of Ghana and the country. The Vice Chancellor used the occasion to call on all Africans to critically look at leadership on the continent. According to him, even though leadership is not easy,  it is a determinant of development as good leadership he said  promotes development while bad leadership stifles development.

The Vice Chancellor also advocated for all Ghanaians to come together and rebuild the country for the future generation. He additionally bemoaned the attitude of selfishness and called upon all Ghanaians to put the nation and our various institutions first. He also charged the youth to take part in the democracy of the country in a peaceful and decent manner.

In eulogizing the late Kofi Annan, who was the founding chairperson of the  Global Public Excellence,  Prof. Oduro Owusu said he was selfless man who cared for the whole of humanity and lived for world peace.   He gave assurance of the University’s support towards the Global Excellence Initiatives, adding that the University has an obligation to help achieve the objectives of these initiatives as a way of honouring the services of the late Kofi Annan to the University. He also charged the youth to take part in the democracy of the country in a peaceful and decent manner.

The  ceremony which  took place at the New Council Chamber of the University of Ghana during which other individuals received awards,  also saw the launch of the Global Excellence Awards.
