The College of Health Sciences has held its 3rd Biennial Scientific Conference at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Accra under the theme: “Genetics, Hypertension, Diabetes and Herbal Remedies in Chronic Kidney Diseases”.
The three-day Conference saw in attendance faculty and staff from the constituent institutions of the College and some private practitioners in the health sector.
A representative from Tobinco Pharmacueticals, Mrs. Evelyn Offei speaking on behalf of Mr. Samuel Amo Tobin, Group Chairman, indicated that research outputs from conferences like the Scientific Conference have contributed immensely to civilization and the wellbeing of humankind. She was hopeful that the 3rdBiennial Scientific Conference would also meet a critical need in the health sector.

Professor Patrick F. Ayeh-Kumi, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, in his address to open the Conference stated that the Conference was the College’s contribution towards the achievement of the University’s vision of becoming a research-intensive university in the next decade.
He stated that research especially in the field of health was only useful if the findings of such endeavours were timeously made available in the most appropriate way to all who need them. He added that it the Conference sought to harness research findings in a manner that was easily understandable for immediate application to help reduce the burden of chronic kidney diseases (CKD) in the country.

The College of Health Sciences Biennial Scientific Conference is a forum at which health professionals, policy makers, industry and academia share information, experiences and results of past and current research. The Conference aims at expanding the scope of knowledge of health personnel including Doctors, Public Health Practitioners, Nurses, Dieticians, Pharmacists and Biomedical Scientists to improve their practice and encourage public debate on challenges and opportunities in healthcare delivery in the country. The conference also facilitates the development of policies that would bring about the needed improvements in the health sector.
The 3rd Biennial Scientific Conference also marked the climax of the College of Health Science month-long activities marking the 70th Anniversary of the University.
