UG UTAG donates to UG Endowment Fund

The University of Ghana chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has presented a cheque donation of 120,000 Ghana cedis to the Endowment fund of the University of Ghana.

The endowment fund which has been set up as one of the major activities highlighting the University’s 70th anniversary seeks to provide non-restricted funding to enable the University deliver on her mandate and provide additional facilities and resources to enhance teaching and learning.

Speaking at the event, the President of UTAG Legon; Dr. Harry Agbanu commended the Vice Chancellor and the University management for setting up the endowment fund.

He further mentioned that endowment funds are one of the most efficient and reliable ways Universities in the world funded their activities; and it was also prudent that members within the University Community supported the fund before those outside the University could do so.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof Ebenezer Oduro who received the Cheque on behalf of the University Management stressed on the why the University needed an Endowment fund. He reiterated that the University focuses on Internally generated funds which are woefully inadequate to aid in running the University.

The Vice-chancellor ended by admonishing other units and unions in the University and particularly the general students’ body to help in building the fund since they were going to be the biggest beneficiaries of it. He also advised the students to be a part of things that happen in the University and not just pass through the University.

Present at the brief ceremony were Mrs. Christy Badu, Deputy Registrar; Alumni Relations Office and Ag. Director of Academic Affairs Directorate, Prof. Daniel Sarpong; Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, Dr. Ebenezer Owusu: Senior lecturer at the Department of Botany and some other executives of UTAG Legon as well as some lecturers and staff of the University.
